Art highlights in Vienna: Gauguin, Corbijn and Abramović impress!

The art and culture world in Vienna awaits exciting highlights at the Bank Austria Kunstforum. Until January 19, 2025, the forum is presenting the first comprehensive retrospective of Paul Gauguin since the 1960s. Under the title “Gauguin – unexpected”, visitors can admire around 80 works by the French painter, including graphics, woodcuts, sculptures and early works. This exhibition answers exciting questions about Gauguin's Breton influences and his contribution to modern art. How bankaustria.at reported, free entry to the exhibition will also be offered on December 13, 2024 if a BankCard is presented.

Impressive prospects for future exhibitions

There are two top-class exhibitions on the program in 2025: “Anton Corbijn – Favorite Darkness” opens the doors on February 15th. The well-known photographer and filmmaker is presented with impressive portraits of stars such as David Bowie and Jodie Foster. This show will showcase Corbijn's creative influence in the music and film industries by expanding his work beyond photography to music videos and album cover designs. How ots.at notes, this exhibition is not only a tribute to Corbijn's work, but also to his ability to influence art history.

From October 2025, the renowned performance artist Marina Abramović will be honored at the Kunstforum. This retrospective will take place in Austria for the first time and promises daily reenactments of her most important works. This collaboration is supported by institutions such as the Royal Academy of Arts in London. In an innovative concept, the art forum will focus on various topics such as participation and body boundaries, thereby underlining the relevance of performance art in today's world.
