Alarming living crisis: 40 % of Viennese fight for survival!
In Vienna, concern for increasing housing costs is growing. According to a survey by Immowelt.at, two thirds of the respondents worry about their living situation. The study that is still affordable as part of the survey "Is living in Austria still affordable?" has been carried out, shows that living is increasingly becoming a financial burden. The pressure on the housing market has brought many households into a difficult financial situation.
It is particularly worrying that 40 percent of Viennese state that their monthly housing costs are a "big challenge". These figures make it clear that living in the capital is no longer affordable for many. The problems hit tenants, people under the age of 40 and singles. Single parents are also severely affected: 37 percent find their living situation "no longer affordable".
Austria -wide trends
across Austria it turns out that a little more than half of the respondents can do their housing costs well. Nevertheless, there are also worrying tendencies here: 30 percent of the population describe their financial burden as "just affordable". In addition, 10 percent of the respondents have to deal with high rental, repayment and operating costs and are in a critical situation. Despite the current opportunity to cope with the housing costs, the uncertainty remains for the future.
These challenges are in the context of the general development of housing costs, which according to the data of Statistics Austria continuously. Private households spend a significant part of their income for living, whereby the total housing costs include rental and operating costs, energy costs and maintenance expenses. The share of housing costs is regularly recorded and thus shows the pressure conditions on households and increasing stress due to increasing living costs.
