Köller, born in 1984, made a name for itself in Austria's literature and theater scene.
In "Wild prolonged" the protagonist Marie, a spoiled Viennese, flees to her cousin Johanna, who lives on a Tyrolean alp. Here two stubborn women meet who discover their anger between nature forces. Köller's narrative style combines poetic, humorous elements with criticism of civilization as part of a political novel that is reminiscent of works such as the "Blair Witch Project". This not only tells a story, but also a contemporary comment on the social role of women who are often needed, especially considering the current social challenges.
literary and feminism
The reading of Köller's novel, which was already in the Schwaz city library on April 23, 2025, was part of a broader movement that gives feminist literature in Austria. In this context, Katharina Köller is a voice that raises public awareness of the resignation and anger of women. Literature also addresses current social problems, such as the problem of the female female, of which around 30 women in Austria are affected annually. Feminist authors such as Birgit Birnbacher and Mareike Fallwickl also show in their works how important it is to process these topics literarily.
The initiative to promote feminist literature in Austria is also visible at the Leipzig Book Fair 2023, where Austria appears as a host country. Katja Gasser, one of the organizers, wants to create a picture of Austria that is progressive and multilingual in order to also reduce clichés across the country. "Protect wild" is a contemporary contribution to this discussion by addressing the inner conflicts of women in a society characterized by patriarchal structures, with Köller impressing with their humorous and ironic writing style.
summarized Köller's work not only offers an exciting novel, but also raises important questions about the social position of women. The book presentation on July 2 will be an excellent opportunity to learn more about the topics of the novel and to once again dive into the underrepresented world of feminist literature.
