In the early morning hours of May 24, 2025, a wrong-way driver was stopped on the A14 heading towards Germany. The 34-year-old man was drunk and driving the wrong way on the highway. At 3:00 a.m., several road users received alarm messages that informed the police about the dangerous situation. The Bludenz motorway police were able to stop the vehicle at the Frastanz exit, where further investigations were initiated.
An alcohol test carried out revealed that the driver was significantly intoxicated. As a result, both his driver's license and the vehicle keys were confiscated on site. When checking the vehicle, the police also discovered damage to the passenger side. Investigations are now underway to determine whether this damage is related to the wrong-way driving. The motorway police are also asking for information from people who have seen the wrong-way driver or felt endangered by him.
Alcoholization as the main cause?
The almost 40% of wrong-way driver cases can be traced back to a conscious maneuver, as a study by Spiegel shows. This fact raises additional questions, particularly regarding the behavior of drivers who are behind the wheel without sufficient control. The current situation on the A14 once again illustrates the dangers posed by drivers under the influence of alcohol.
The Vorarlberger Nachrichten also reported on the critical situation caused by drunk driving. In the case of the wrong-way driver, the authorities are now required to act preventively and raise public awareness of the issue. Even if the wrong-way driver fortunately did not endanger anyone in the current case, such incidents are cause for concern.
To ensure safety on the roads, the authorities appeal to all road users to drive carefully and responsibly. Drunk driving in particular remains a serious problem that must be combated consistently.
