Trump and Putin: summit without progress in the Ukraine conflict!

US President Donald Trump and Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin held a summit in Alaska on August 16, 2025, whose outcome, however, brought little progress in relation to the Ukraine conflict. Despite Trump's statements that have been achieved in important points, he avoided giving concrete details. Putin also spoke about possible agreements, but without going down. However, one important goal is common to both sides: the desire to end the Ukraine war.

Trump explained that the war had to be ended and that a deal was within reach. In this regard, he plans to discuss with NATO allies and the Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj and contact NATO and other relevant people to inform about the results of the meeting. Putin described the conversations as constructive and rich in content, but made it clear that many points were still unclear.

Details of the summit

The meeting, which lasted about 2 hours and 45 minutes, offered Trump the opportunity to receive Putin at the Anchorage military airfield with a long handshake. While Putin pointed out that the Ukraine War under Trump would not have broken out, he increased the pressure on the Ukrainian government, which had to agree to the proposals.

In addition, Putin reported 20 percent of an increase in trading volume between Russia and the United States below the current US government. European allies, under the initiative of Germany's Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz, called for a persistent ceasefire and the participation of Ukraine in future negotiations, whereby Merz excluded international recognition of Russian conquests and insisted on security guarantees for Ukraine.

Legal dispute over abroad

Lauren Bateman, main grant in this case, described the judgment as a significant setback for the rule of law and announced that the lawsuit would be continued. This decision raises questions about monitoring and the processes within the US government.
