Tyrol's school ski campaign: winter fun for all children in the country!

A remarkable project will be launched in Tyrol in the coming winter season: the school ski campaign. This program enables children and young people, regardless of their financial circumstances, to take part in ski days. The state of Tyrol has planned an investment of around 500,000 euros for this project.

The school ski campaign was presented to the public on November 19th. Schools in Tyrol will soon receive information about registration so that the ski days can take place from now until the end of the winter season.

Uniform ski days for everyone

Previously, the school ski days only took place regionally. The new approach makes it possible for all schools in Tyrol to be able to go skiing. A common problem was that classes were unable to get to the ski resorts due to logistical difficulties. This is now a thing of the past. Representatives of the ski schools have already held discussions to establish cooperation within the framework of the campaign.

“Through exemplary cooperation between cable cars, sporting goods retailers, bus companies and the education department, the costs for schoolchildren for the ski trip can be reduced enormously,” explained State Governor Anton Mattle.

In recent decades, the Tyrolean cable car initiative has enabled between 30,000 and 50,000 students to experience a day of skiing every year. Despite challenges caused by the weather conditions, Reinhard Klier, chairman of the cable car specialist group of the Tyrol Chamber of Commerce, is optimistic for a “solid” winter.

It is planned that the current local tariffs will continue to apply, which is particularly important for children and young people. The current focus is on the sports of swimming and skiing in order to give young people the opportunity to be active.

The importance of skiing for Tyrol

"It is essential that our children and young people become enthusiastic about skiing. This is the only way they can pass on their passion to the future guests of our region," emphasized Deputy Governor Georg Dornauer. He emphasizes how important this enthusiasm is for tourism and the economy of Tyrol. The strategy includes an investment in the country's tourism development.

There are also specific advantages for schools: travel costs are funded once a year for each school class. Up to 500 euros are provided for trips with a Tyrolean bus company to a ski region. Under the new regulation, groups of students from the first to ninth grades can ski for free, while students from the 10th to 13th grades only have to pay 5 euros per day. Equipment rental is also available for 8 euros per day, both for students and teachers.

The aim of this initiative is clear: to offer children and young people access to skiing and thus strengthen their connection with the traditions and nature of Tyrol. These funding measures are intended to contribute to strengthening Tyrol as a sports and tourism region in the long term.
