SV Ried relies on the future: Jonas Mayer extended until 2028!

Ried, Österreich - The SV Guntamatic Ried has announced the early contract extension with its aspiring midfielder Jonas Mayer today. The new contract of the 20-year-old is valid until 2028 and represents a clear commitment to the club's youth work. The contract was originally created until summer 2026, but those responsible in Mayer see a central element for the future SV Ried's future success plans. Wolfgang Fiala, Managing Director of Sport, emphasizes the importance of promoting young talents that form the basis for the sporting development of the association.

Mayer switched from the youth of FC Pinzgau Saalfelden to SV Ried in 2018 and went through the academy there before giving his debut in the Admiral Bundesliga in 2022. Since then he has already played 39 competitive games for the team, including a memorable game against Viennese Austria, in which he was in the highest league for the first time.

The challenges of the coming season

In the current season 2024/25, Hausbäuber Mayer has already received the award for the round of league portal players three times, which underlines its constant increase in performance. Despite his positive development, Mayer had to pause in the last two games due to an illness. However, he is optimistic and sees the upcoming games as a challenge in which he and the team can fully develop their potential.

Currently the SV Ried is five points behind the leaders FC Admira, which generates additional pressure. Nevertheless, Mayer remains confident: "I believe in the strengths of our team," he says in an exclusive interview. His personal goals are clearly defined. He strives for the promotion to the ÖFB-U21 national team, as well as the Bundesliga promotion with SV Ried.

Jonas Mayer’s past and the way to his current status are closely linked to the extensive youth work of the Austrian Football Association (ÖFB). The ÖFB attaches great importance to promoting talented children and adolescents regardless of their origin. Around 125,000 children play in the thousands of young people, with the focus and the joy of playing in the foreground. A central element of this development are local associations, state training centers (LAZ) and academies (AKA) that offer talents like Mayer a platform to develop their talent.
