Welcome Pietro & Co.: Alpacas enrich school life in Großlobming
There was a special occasion in the technical school for agricultural and nutritional economy in Großlobming on October 4: the alpacas have arrived! At 9 a.m., the animals-the Alpaka gelding Pietro and its animal companions Spotty and Prince-were brought to their newly built enclosure. Despite the rainy weather, the students were enthusiastic and warmly welcomed the fluffy newbies with a “warm welcome” garland. The alpacas come from the Murtal Alpakahof Wieser, and the headmistress Heidi Liebminger personally took care of their transport.
"Pietro, Bro, don't let me hang!" Shouted excited students as they spread the hay on the ground. It is not only proof of the curiosity of young people, but also an exciting new part of their curriculum. The school management has decided to integrate the alpacas into the lessons in order to strengthen the practical relevance for the students.
Practical lessons through alpacas
The idea behind the alpaca project is to offer the students practical experiences that go beyond theoretical lessons. Alpacas are characterized by their meek and can teach the students valuable lessons on animal husbandry and responsibility. Teachers are already enthusiastic about the possibilities that result from the presence of these animals. The school management plans to further expand the project in order to promote the interests of the students in agriculture and animal husbandry.
Due to the introduction of the alpacas, the interaction between students and animals could prove beneficial. The students are offered the opportunity to take care of the daily needs of the alpacas, which not only requires practical skills, but also conveys a feeling of responsibility.
In the context of modern teaching, the integration of animals into the classroom represents an innovative approach. Students could learn how to maintain the animals, feed them correctly and possibly even understand their behavior better. Such experiences can help deepen the general understanding of agricultural practices and to lead to a greater interest in these topics.
The school also relies on social media to increase the awareness of the project. Students already show great interest in sharing videos and photos on platforms such as TikTok in order to put the alpacas in the spotlight. This could not only entertain the students, but also awaken the interest of the public in the school and their new animal friends.
The decision to integrate alpacas into class was enthusiastically accepted by the school community. Teachers and students are excited to see how this project will develop and what new opportunities arise for teaching through the presence of the animals.
Due to the innovative connection of animal -supported learning and classical agriculture, this initiative could not only arouse the interest of the students in practical skills, but also have a long -term effect by adapting the educational approach to current circumstances and offers the students an enrichment learning experience.
