Bicycle for every third grade child: Graz launches bike bonus initiative
In an exciting step to promote cycling culture among children in Graz, the Graz children's cycling bonus is being expanded to all primary schools. This means that over 2,300 third graders benefit from an attractive bonus of 250 euros, which makes it easier to buy their own children's bike. This step comes in time for the students' upcoming bicycle test.
The focus on the third grade is intended to arouse enthusiasm for cycling at an early stage and ensure that the bicycles are available in time for the upcoming cycling training. Deputy Mayor Judith Schwentner emphasizes the importance of this project: "A bike for every child is one of my heart's projects. Every child should have the opportunity to travel safely on their own bike. With the children's bike bonus, we make it easier for children to have access to bikes and promote environmentally friendly transportation options."
Process and details of the cycling bonus
Wolfgang Feigl, head of the traffic planning department, is convinced that Graz is at the forefront with this project. "After the first pilot phase last year, we are now well prepared to implement the project fully at all primary schools. Numerous bicycle dealers support us in promoting the idea of cycling from childhood," he said.
