Selenskyj: Together against the threat of Putin and North Korea!

The Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj has again called for an international approach to Russia, Iran and North Korea to stop the aggressive cooperation between these countries. In an emotional appeal, he emphasized the dangers that arise from the support of the Iranian nuclear program by Russia. According to Selenskyj, this interaction shows the aim of the Russians to support a destabilized partner in the Middle East. At the same time, he criticized the use of Iranian Shahed drones and North Korean ballistic rockets in the attacks against Ukraine.

Particularly affected by the constant air strikes, which according to Selenskyj as intentional terror of the Russian army, is Kiev. Using the example of a current air raid, in which 23 people were killed, Selenskyj demonstrated the devastating effects on the civilian population. A total of around 30 people in Kyiv and other cities died through various attacks. In order to commemorate the victims, Selenskyj put flowers at the site of the attack and called for an tightening of international sanctions against the actors involved.

Russia's veto against sanctions

The international community is also faced with the resistance of Russia. A current example of this situation is the blockage of the extension of UN sanctions against North Korea, which are designed for the expansion of its nuclear program. Russia voted against the United States' application in the UN Security Council, which prevents further monitoring of the existing sanctions. China, which contained this decision, traditionally lodged similar Vetos to prevent North Korea's conviction.

This geopolitical dynamic means that North Korea remains isolated internationally, but still works unhindered on its nuclear and rocket program. According to the Russian UN ambassador Wassili Nagsja, the western sanctions are ineffective, although the existing measures are maintained against North Korea.

sanctions against North Korea

The sanctions of the UN Security Council against North Korea are extensive and contain various measures. These include:

  • Militgüterembargo: ban on delivery, sales and distribution of armaments as well as military support.
  • Complete ban on foreign trade: ban on all transactions with goods that can be used to develop nuclear or mass destruction weapons.
  • luxury goods ban: export and import of luxury goods according to or from North Korea is prohibited.
In addition to these sanctions, there are also far -reaching financial restrictions, including freezing funds and restrictions in the financial sector. This is intended to ensure that North Korea has no access to resources that could be used to further develop its nuclear program.

The continuing conflicts and the military exchange between the states involved illustrate the urgency of strengthening international cooperation in order to keep aggressive regime such as that of Putin, Kim Jong-Un and Mullahs in Iran. Selenskyj's appeal could be the initial spark for necessary measures.
