Serious dog bite in Kirchberg: Girl fights to recover!

A terrible incident became known in Kirchberg on New Year's Day when a six-year-old girl was attacked and seriously injured by a Rottweiler. The dog's bite, which focused on the girl's upper arm, shoulder and lower leg, resulted in the child having to be flown to Kepler University Hospital in an emergency helicopter. Fortunately, the girl does not appear to have suffered any life-threatening injuries and is on the mend, as Jutta Oberweger, press spokeswoman for the OÖG, reported. The dog owners then decided to voluntarily give up their four-legged friend, which was confirmed by Kirchberg's deputy mayor Stefan Reisinger. The decision was made even though the dog had grown fond of the children who often played with him. The incident will now also have legal consequences as the owners will be reported.

Dogs understand us better than we think

A fascinating study by European scientists could now shed new light on the relationship between humans and dogs. The research revealed that dogs communicate not only through body language but also through human language. Interestingly, the study results show that people subconsciously speak slower when communicating with their dogs, using only about three syllables per second, compared to four syllables per second when talking to other people. This slow speaking rate helps dogs better understand human concerns. The research group concluded that dogs are able to recognize different human languages and even distinguish between meaningful speech and confused word salad. According to previous findings from Hungarian researchers, dogs are able to show brain activity when they hear stories in their familiar language, providing additional clues about their cognitive abilities.
