Robert Kratky says goodbye: The nation's alarm clock goes!
On August 16, 2025, Robert Kratky ended his career at Ö3 as the "alarm clock of the nation" for health reasons. The decision was made on medical advice, which visibly affected the well -known moderator. Kratky commented "with a heavy heart but full of gratitude" about his end of his career and looks back on an impressive career he has spent since 1991 at Hitradio Ö3. At the beginning he worked as a director and live reporter before taking over the moderation.
In the course of his career, Kratky moderated various programs, including the "Ö3 alarm clock", "Treffpunkt Ö3", "Kinderwecker", "Alles love", "Funhouse" and "Smalltalk". His role as chief producer of the "Ö3-Weckers" in 1996 was particularly formative, where he also invented innovative radio comedies such as "Vignetteman" and "Grandma Raithofer & Grandpa Kratky". From 1997 Kratky was initially a second moderator, from 2004 the main moderator of the "Ö3-Weckers" and has thus achieved the longest service as a moderator of this important broadcast on the Austrian radio.
Appreciation and reaction
The reactions to Kratky's resignation were varied. Writer Gottfried Distl noted that a successful career can also bring health consequences and sent Heartfelt good wishes for recovery. Moderator Sigi Fink also emphasized that Kratky will be missing in the radio scene. Fans of the sender showed themselves dismayed at the end of the career, but at the same time expressed their concern about Kratkys's health and wished him an early relaxation.
The news of his resignation caused great emotions in the audience and the media landscape, since Kratky was not only a voice of the radio, but also a reliable accompanying person in everyday life for many people. His humorous nature and commitment made him a popular figure that will certainly be missing from many.
Nevertheless, health remains in the first place, and Kratky apparently made this important decision carefully to concentrate on his recovery.
