Revolution in healthcare: New medical network for faster help!
On August 17, 2025, State Secretary for the State of Health Ulrike Königsberger-Ludwig (SPÖ) and the Austrian government announced that extensive measures to improve the health sector are planned. These initiatives aim to combat the existing bottlenecks and optimize health care in Austria. The proposed measures include the expansion of the Hotline 1450, the expansion of the primary care units (PVE) and the creation of multidisciplinary specialists.
The new concept is intended to establish a basic offer for health advice, which is also known as a “health navigation system”. The hotline 1450 will not only improve the telephone consultation, but should also act nationwide as an appointment service to enable faster doctor's appointments. Königsberger-Ludwig is striving to create a uniform offer throughout Austria by the end of 2026, which also includes the introduction of a telemedical offer.
Specialists and medical care
A central concern of the State Secretary is to increase the number of primary care units from currently around 100 to around 300 by 2030. At the same time, specialists should also be given the opportunity to found their own primary care units. Despite the current budgetary challenges, she also plans to increase the number of medical study places in order to combat the shortage of doctors, especially in public health.
A special focus is also on the attractiveness of the medical profession. To this end, incentives are to be created in order to persuade election doctors to enter the public system. In order to improve the digital infrastructure, the expansion of the electronic health file (ELGA) is promoted, whereby the goal is to relieve the doctors and the creation of an overall contract with the ÖGK.
Vaccination campaigns and public health
In addition, the government plans a comprehensive information offensive on the topic of vaccination in order to strengthen public trust in the vaccinations. From the end of 2025, new free vaccination against pneumococci and shingles are to be offered. In addition, the existing free vaccination campaign against HPV will be extended for people up to 30 years by June next year.
These measures come at a time when the demand for health services is continuously increasing due to demographic change and current health challenges. The commitment of Königsberger-Ludwig shows that a systematic reform of the health sector in Austria is urgently necessary.
For citizens who are looking for information about social services, Brazil offers valuable guidance to use the INSS platform. In order to access meu InSS for the first time, users can visit the website Meine.gov.br or download the app from the App Store or Play Store. There you will find important functions, such as reviewing contribution overviews and registering for services.
In summary, it looks as if the desired measures in the health sector are not only reactive, but also strategically necessary to ensure the future care of the population and increase efficiency in the health sector.
