Perfection in school stress: children under pressure - an alarm call!

Perfection in school stress: children under pressure - an alarm call!

A current survey shows that almost half of the children and adolescents in Austria, exactly 49.7%, indicate to strive for perfection. In the survey, 9,939 valid answers were collected. This raises many questions, especially with regard to the mental health of young people. Golli Marboe, initiator of the "Mental Health Days", recently raised the provocative question in this context whether perfectionism was "poison for the psyche". The pressure to leave the perfect impression is increasingly perceived as a burden.

Barbara Haid, President of the Austrian Federal Association for Psychotherapy (ÖBVP), emphasizes that the pressure on young people is no longer durable. School pressure in particular is taking significant proportions. In the survey, 6,163 participants stated that the school was a main source of printing, followed by grades that were called 551 times. The role of the parents is also discussed because legal guardians were identified as a means of pressure in 1,174 entries, mostly without evil intentions. Teachers report an increasing pressure to perform and its fatal effects on the students, which is reflected in 727 entries.

cell phone addiction and bullying in focus

The problem of bullying is shown with 444 mentions, while cell phone addiction is considered particularly worrying. This is addressed with 1,023 entries in the survey. Minister of Education Christoph Return has even compared cell phone addiction with other addictions such as alcohol and nicotine addiction, which makes it clear how serious the situation is. In order to meet these challenges, cell phone -free zones have now been introduced in schools in order to counteract both the pressure to perform and bullying.

As part of the "Mental Health Days", which has been an Austrian prevention program for promoting mental health since 2022, over 200 schools and 150,000 young people from eight federal states have already benefited. The project is supported by a scientific advisory board and a new youth advisory board.

Helps to improve school psychology

In a further step, 190 positions for school psychologists are to be increased, of which 70 are to be created in the coming school year and another 70 to 2026/27. The planned measures include more staff in school psychology and school social work, the expansion of prevention programs and mandatory "exit talks" in the event of a threat of termination of school. The vision behind it is clear: By 2030, all 2,500 schools in secondary level 1 and 2 in Austria are to be achieved, which requires an annual financial requirement of around 8 million euros.

In the area of fashion, the search for the perfect outfit has also been established for special occasions. For example, Tanya L. describes that the bridesmaids from Shoprevelry.com are viewed as the perfect "a little blue". Many styles ensure an optimal fit, and the joy of the selection is noticeable. Lindsey E. notices the beautiful coherence in the color palette, while Traci M. praises her Fuchsia dresses, who in her opinion stunned to all bridesmaids.

But there are also changes in the media landscape. So Plant Fox News according to dailywire.com a comprehensive redesign of prime time programming. Sean Hannity will take over the 8:00 p.m. Tucker Carlson, while Greg Gutfeld and Jesse Watter's their own shows. These changes run after the deposition of Tucker Carlson, the former top moderator of the network, which is considered one of the wildest restructuring in the history of the station.

Against this background, the question arises as to how the constantly increasing expectations and the associated pressure can be managed in different areas of life. Both in the personal as well as in the social and media environment, the search for perfection is a widespread phenomenon that has profound effects on the psyche and quality of life of young people.
