Current figures on the asylum and migration situation
In connection with the challenges of integration, it is important to take the current figures on asylum and migration situation into account in Austria. According to a bulletin of the ÖIF, a total of 3,593 positive decisions in the area of asylum and subsidiary protection were made in April 2025, which means a decrease of 62 percent compared to the previous year. This has been the lowest value since the beginning of 2021. The majority of positive decisions have been awarded Afghan, followed by Somalier and Syrians. The number of asylum applications is also declining: in 2025 a total of 6,056 asylum applications were made, which corresponds to a decrease of 35 percent compared to the previous year
The data show that children submitted 51 percent of all applications and that only 33 percent of the applications come from newly traveled asylum seekers. These developments underline the challenges in front of which the ÖIF and the integration system faces, while at the same time emphasizing the need to promote integration measures and projects. The ÖIF continuously informs the public about the current situation in terms of integration, asylum and migration in Austria.
