The administrative board of the Austrian Health Insurance Fund (ÖGK) will meet on April 28, 2025 and important decisions are expected. Planned health care reform

In the context of the existing challenges, a comprehensive healthcare reform is sought. The federal government, the states and social security have agreed on a reform package that will provide an additional 14 billion euros for the areas of health and care over the next five years. This corresponds to an annual average of 2.8 billion euros. The aim is to make healthcare affordable, emphasizes Federal Minister Johannes Rauch. An OECD report highlights the need for structural reforms in the Austrian healthcare system.

The reform includes several key areas that are to be implemented in the coming years:

• Stärkung des niedergelassenen Bereichs: Kassenstellen sollen insbesondere in der Primärversorgung ausgebaut werden, um mehr Angebote zu Randzeiten und am Wochenende zu schaffen. Hierzu stehen jährlich 300 Millionen Euro bereit.
• Strukturreform in Spitälern: Der Ausbau von spezialisierten Fachambulanzen sowie die Schaffung von Tageskliniken ist vorgesehen. An die Länder werden zusätzlich 600 Millionen Euro pro Jahr fließen.
• Ausbau digitaler Angebote: Geplant ist die Weiterentwicklung von telemedizinischen Angeboten, mit einem jährlichen Budget von 51 Millionen Euro.
• Verbesserung der Gesundheitsförderung und Vorsorge: Diese Maßnahme wird mit 60 Millionen Euro pro Jahr unterstützt und umfasst auch die Ausrollung von Programmen für Schwangere und junge Eltern.
• Impfprogramm: Ein bundesweit finanziertes Impfprogramm wird schrittweise umgesetzt, mit einem Budget von 90 Millionen Euro jährlich.
• Verbesserung der Medikamentenversorgung: Ein Bewertungsboard für teure Medikamente wird eingerichtet, mit einem jährlichen Budget von 3 Millionen Euro vom Bund.
• Pflege: Hierzu gehören Gehaltserhöhungen für Pflegekräfte und Ausbildungszuschüsse für Studierende. Die Aufstockung des Pflegefonds wird von 455 Millionen auf durchschnittlich 1,2 Milliarden Euro pro Jahr erhöht.
