Leondinger municipal council: Südgarten lock remains, Herderstraße is open

Leonding. In a recent meeting, the Leonding municipal council decided to maintain the “Am Südgarten” roadblock, while the lock was lifted on Herderstrasse/Georg-Eber-Straße. These decisions are based on the results of a residual survey.

From May to October, the city of Leonding introduced a pilot project that included temporary roadblocks in the areas of “Am Südgarten” and Herderstraße/Georg-Eber-Straße. The aim was to relieve the traffic situation and bring the effects of such measures closer to the residents. This project was carried out in cooperation with the Center of Mobility Change at the University of Innsbruck to find out how these locks influence the everyday life of the residents.

Anrainer survey decides on roadblocks

After about four and a half months of trial operation, a survey was carried out in which the residents could vote on whether the locks in their residential areas should remain permanently or not. The municipal council then unanimously decided to fulfill the wishes of the majority. The temporary lock on Herderstraße/Georg-Eber-Straße, as desired by 57.03 percent of those surveyed, was lifted on the day after the vote and is not set up again.

In contrast, 60 percent of the respondents spoke in favor of continuing the lock "am Südgarten". Therefore, the barrier remains at this point. The decision represents an important step in the city's efforts to improve the traffic situation and take into account the needs of the residents.
