Gallneukirchen.In conversation with Mayor Sepp Wall-Strasser (SPÖ) it becomes clear that Gallneukirchen is not only an attractive residential area, but also has to deal with various challenges. Despite stagnating population, the municipality has a pronounced lifestyle, which is mainly due to the good infrastructure. Wall-Strasser emphasizes that the large number of schools, jobs and cultural offers contribute to the quality of life.
But not everything runs smoothly. The central location of the municipality means that there is increasing influx and through traffic, which leads to annoyance. The mayor realizes that traffic noise and lack of parking are among the most common symptoms. "We accepted these topics and started a concept for downtown development," informed Wall-Strasser. The aim is to actively involve the residents in the solution of these problems. He relies on the promotion of public transport and plans tempotic suits to improve the quality of life.
Current challenges and measures
Wall-Strasser describes the traffic situation as "one of the greatest challenges". In particular, the expansion of the Freistadt-Gallneukirchen-Linz bus connection, which is considered the best developed in Upper Austria, should make it easier to switch to public transport. In addition, looking for suitable underground garages and park-& Ride places to defuse the parking lot situation in the city. The improvement of these factors is crucial to keep Gallneukirchen attractive as a location for companies and gastronomy.
Investments are also made in education: "Our school-based project with a volume of 25 million euros is promising," emphasizes Wall-Strasser. The old elementary school is already getting a new face, while the new school kitchen, which cooks daily for over 500 people, is used lively.
Wall-Strasser is particularly proud of the new public appearance of the municipality. "We have a modern logo and a new homepage that is part of our new corporate identity," he explains. This was realized in cooperation with the Linz HTL 1 construction and design. The attributes "moving, far -sighted, diverse" should not only describe the community, but also serve as a guide for the future.
In addition, Gallneukirchen is preparing for a special anniversary: in 2024 the first documentary mention of the community is 900 years old. "We are planning numerous events and would like to celebrate the opening on January 17th," announced Wall-Strasser. This is a remarkable opportunity to emphasize the history and the cultural heritage of the city.
