LASK coach Sacramento: The most unfair derby experience after a 3-1 defeat!”
On August 30, 2025, LASK lost the Upper Austria derby against SV Ried 1:3. Coach Joao Sacramento described the game as one of the most unfair he has ever seen, as in his opinion LASK was the better team but could not win despite many chances. After the game, Sacramento emphasized that taking advantage of opportunities continued to be a crucial problem, as Linz hit the woodwork four times. In front of 13,297 spectators, the LASK players failed to take advantage of their opportunities in the first half.
Several situations were crucial. Andres Andrade failed to score alone in the 11th minute, while Krystof Danek missed a good opportunity in the 9th minute. Samuel Adeniran, who was called into the starting line-up at short notice, also had several chances but was denied a goal. A header from Adeniran in the 62nd minute hit the aluminum again. Ultimately, LASK was only able to make up for the result through Joao Tornich in the 62nd minute.
Derby analysis and international break
While Ried goes into the first international break of the season as Upper Austria's league leader with two derby wins - against Blau-Weiß Linz (2:0) and LASK (3:1) - the situation for LASK looks bleak. With just three points from five games, the club is in tenth place in the table. Sacramento recognized the need to analyze the situation during the international break and discussed possible transfers to increase the quality of the team, especially considering the departure of goalgetter Robert Zulj.
At the same time, sports director Dino Buric expressed doubts about the need for new signings and argued that LASK had enough qualified players. However, he acknowledged the unsatisfactory start to the season and emphasized how important it was to collect points as quickly as possible in order to get out of the current crisis.
Coach change and team performance
Coach changes are frequent in the Bundesliga, especially when performance is unsatisfactory. A study by Sebastian Zart, sports scientist at the TU Kaiserslautern, shows mixed results on the effects of such changes. While around half of the games analyzed show a positive effect after a coaching change, there are also many cases without significant improvement. Zart and his team examined around 4,000 games and found that the increase in performance can last up to 16 game days after a change. The current situation at LASK could also represent a critical point in this context.
The challenge for Sacramento is not only to nurture the attitude of its players, but also to develop an effective strategy for converting opportunities. The coming games will show whether LASK is able to fix the recurring problems and free itself from the lower region of the table.
While the signs are clear regarding analysis and how the players can develop as a team, it remains to be seen how the team will use the upcoming international break to make positive changes.
