This early success brought the wildcats into a positive mood. Shortly afterwards, Vincenzo Zoina achieved the first rushing touchdown, even if the subsequent PAT was not successful, which the wildcats gave 6-0 in the lead.
Excitement and drama in the course of the game
The defense of the wildcats was strong right from the start and initially did not let the offense of the dragons develop. But a number of punishments on the Wildcats side opened a window. The dragons took the opportunity and took the lead with a touchdown and Pat with 7: 6. This increased the voltage in the stadium significantly because the game was now completely open.
The wildcats temporarily stumbled. After several mistakes on their own offensive, it didn't look good for them. But a key moment came when Oliver Kimböck conquered a fumble of the dragons and brought the wildcats into the lead with a defensive touchdown 12: 7. Shortly before half-time, Adrian Spannbauer was able to increase the score through a pass on Michael Wimmer to 20: 6, including a successful Two-Point Conversion.
Head coach Julian Minigshofer recorded his team's performance in the first two quarters with a mixed feeling. "Our fans were incredible, but we sometimes made life difficult for ourselves. There were too many mistakes, especially in the third quarter," he said after the game. This indicates the challenges in front of which the wildcats stood in the second half of the game.
The third quarter was characterized by uncertainties for both teams. The Wildcats had difficulties again, and Bayreuth was able to beat back with a 70 yard touchdown pass. The defense of the wildcats, under the direction of Max Brodschelm and Florian Eichinger, presented the dragons of major problems. Brodschelm grabbed an important quarterback sack while Eichinger shone with several tackles. The Bayreuth Offense simply did not find its rhythm back, which the wildcats strongly strengthened.
Artur Gärtner sealed the success of the wildcats by achieving the game's last touchdown of the game and thus setting the final result at 32:14. "It was a real team performance.
