Neunkirchen starts sunny times: New power plant after a disused site!
The long shadow of the disused Peisching power plant is giving way to the bright future of solar energy: the newly built solar power plant will open its doors from February 2025. This pioneering EVN project will house a total of 14,256 photovoltaic panels on an area of 7.5 hectares and generate an output of around ten megawatts. This brings EVN significantly closer to its goal of achieving a photovoltaic output of 300 megawatts by 2030 ORF Lower Austria reported.
The switch from fossil fuels to renewable energies finds a symbolic place here: where coal, oil and natural gas were once used to generate electricity, the power of the sun will soon set the tone. EVN spokesman Stefan Zach explains the decision: “Power plant locations are ideal for large-scale photovoltaic systems due to their already sealed areas.” The deputy mayor of Neunkirchen, Johann Gansterer, describes the project as a significant step towards a sustainable energy future for the region. At the same time, the old power plant is being dismantled piece by piece, paving the way for the new era My district documented.
