The wine world recently experienced a big event that demonstrated the excellent abilities of Lower Austrian winemakers. At the "Austrian Wine Challenge Vienna 2024", the world's largest official wine competition, more than 10,800 wines from 41 countries competed. The event took place at the Federal Office for Wine and Obstbau in Klosterneuburg, where 208 experts, including oenologists and sommeliers, assessed the wines in a hidden tasting. Success of the winemakers from Lower Austria

Lower Austria's winemakers performed excellently with the competition. The green Veltliner, the main wine variety of the region, received particular attention. The Ernst winery from Großweikersdorf won the price in the "Green Veltliner classic" category. Julius Klein, one of the victorious wineries, commented on the joy and recognition that goes hand in hand with the victory: "For us, it means great joy and recognition. We are very happy to be able to win here for the third time."

Not only the green Veltliner triumphed, other categories were also dominated by Lower Austrian winegrowers. The Klein winery from Pernersdorf won in the "Grüner Veltliner" category and the Hofstätter winery from Spitz in the Wachau was chosen as the best white wine producer. The Bio-Weingut Frühwirth from Teesdorf also secured the victory in the "Weiß- & Grauburgunder" rating.

The diversity in the wine categories is impressive: In the "Rosé" category, the Heinzl-Gerttinger winery triumphed from Deinzendorf, while in the red wine variety "St. Laurent" the winery Stift Klosterneuburg was the winner. All of these successes not only show the high quality of the wines, but also the commitment of the winemakers who continuously work on improving their products.

The "Austrian Wine Challenge" not only represents a competition, but is also a platform that puts the excellent qualities of the Austrian wines into the spotlight.
