Volunteering as a strength and pride of Lower Austria: Festive evening for the state holiday in honor of the flood helpers

Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner has focused on the emergency services and volunteers of the flood disaster at the traditional State holiday gala in St. Pölten. Instead of a guest speaker, the heroes of the flood were honored. The governor praised the volunteer fire brigade as a "heart of a functioning disaster relief" and emphasized the importance of the volunteer for Lower Austria. She recalled the pictures of flooded houses and desperate families who, after the flood, faced the question of how to proceed. Despite the difficult challenges, the state passed the rehearsal.

In her speech, Mikl-Leitner emphasized the cohesion and determination of the Lower Austrians. It emphasized the values for which the Holy Leopold stands and which are also the foundation of the community. The volunteering is the strength and pride of Lower Austria. Every second person in the state is volunteering in associations, emergency organizations and neighborhood aid. This commitment is a privilege that enriches the community.

The governor said that pride in the country was not a blind chauvinism, but rather showing the attachment to the values, history, traditions and people in Lower Austria. At the same time, this pride is also an obligation to defend the open and liberal society and maintain cohesion.

At the event, three short films were also presented, which illuminated the events of the past few weeks around the flood. The State holiday gala is the traditional end of the Lower Austrian state holiday on November 15th and this year was musically designed by award winners of the youth competition "Prima La Musica".
