Massive fire risk in Nuremberg: 100 firefighters in action!
On Friday, May 2, 2025, the Höllwiesenstraße in the Nuremberg district of Krottenbach occurred in a major fire in an agricultural estate over 100 years old. The alarmed emergency services were immediately alerted due to heavy smoke development and open flames from the roof structure. Around 100 firefighters from the Nuremberg fire brigade and volunteer fire brigade were on site, supported by the fire brigade of the city of Stein fire brigade, after the alarm level was increased due to the critical extinguishing water supply and the narrow construction. In addition, voluntary fire departments from the Eibach and Werderau districts were also included in the measures, while additional units were on standby, reports Fireworld.
When the first extinguishing trains arrived, flames from the roof structure already hit. A bar position was immediately built to prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent buildings. Thanks to the coordinated use of the fire brigade, the fire was quickly brought under control, but parts of the affected building suffered total damage. The exact amount of property damage has not yet been specified. The Technical Relief Agency (THW) was also informed about the situation, which was consulted to assess the static conditions.
Rescue measures and injuries
In addition to the fire brigade, numerous forces from the emergency services and the police were mobilized in addition to the fire brigade. A person had to be hospitalized for suspected flue gas poisoning. The Nuremberg fire brigade was used with a total of three turntable ladders to effectively combat the fire and ensure security in the area.
The situation in Nuremberg is also related to current developments in the field of fire protection and statistics. According to the Cifif Comprehensive annual reports on world fire statistics have been published since 1995. Report No. 28 of 2023 analyzes fire causes in 66 countries and illuminates the development of urban fire risks. These statistics could provide important findings to improve fire protection measures in urban areas.
The “100 Cities - 100 Years” project of the CTIF aims to evaluate fire risks in the 100 largest cities in the world and to analyze the development of these risks over the last century. Such data is essential to further optimize the strategy for danger, especially in historical and densely built -up regions.
