Kärntner Koffler surprised: victory in the Austria Cup against all expectations!

The Carinthian MTB-oriented Koffler caused a sensation at the Austria Cup in Zalaegerszeg, Hungary. In an exciting competition, Koffler performed an impressive performance after he was significantly back in the first half of the race. Through a strategically clever route choice, he managed to catch up again, and in the decisive section he finally prevailed with a lead of only three seconds. Koffler expressed that this success gives him confidence for upcoming challenges and gives him the necessary tailwind for further competitions.

The following day, however, it was less optimal for the athlete. After two mistakes, Koffler took fourth place in the sprint. Despite this disappointment, he secured second place in the overall ranking. In two weeks, the decisive World Cup in Bulgaria will be on the program, where he will go on medal hunt again.

Competitive environment

The IOF World Cup is the highest ranking in mountain bike orientening. Every season, three World Cup rounds with a total of around eight to ten races are usually held every season. The results of the World and European Championships are also among the World Cup races. The number of starters per nation is limited and participation is reserved exclusively for the national teams. Every victory in one run brings both the ladies and men 60 points. Points are awarded up to 35th place, which also recognizes minor successes.

The overall ranking is based on the results of all competitions minus two string results. In addition to the Single World Cup, a Team World Cup is also held, which usually consists of three or four relay competitions. The victorious team gets 20 points, although the best 15 seasons can also achieve World Cup points.

Performance diagnostics in the MTB

The background to the current services in mountain bike sport shows that conventional performance diagnostics are based primarily on step tests for the recording of aerobic performance parameters. However, the MTB sport requires both aerobic and recurring (sub) maximum loads. A dissertation that deals with the development of MTB-specific performance diagnostics illustrates this. The study enclosed 49 athletes, and performance diagnostics included various tests for the recording of max. Wattspower and racing information over various route lengths and vertical meters.

The analysis of the results shows significant correlations between the measurement variables and racing times, which underlines the relevance of an extended performance diagnosis. It was found that 75.7% of the variance of the Z-transformed race times through the 1-minute trial, the individual anaerobic threshold and body weight can be explained. This illustrates how important a comprehensive characterization of the performance level is to create reliable forecasts for MTB marathon drivers.

Overall, Koffler's success and the upcoming World Cup graduation offers an exciting view of the turbulent season and the challenges that are waiting for the athletes.
