Wolves fight bravely, but lose 5:4 in Feldkirch
There is great anticipation for the HC Pustertal Wölfe's first game after the international break. The team competes against the Pioneers in Feldkirch, but despite their ambitions they face challenges. Coach Jaspers still has to do without Deluca, and defender Osmanski is also in the stands as a surplus player. New to the team is goalkeeper Eddie Pasquale, who is making his debut in a Wolves jersey and carrying the hopes of the fans. On the Pioneers side, Pallestrang, Woger and Allen are missing due to injury, while defender Friend returns to the lineup after his lengthy absence.
The game starts with a perfect opportunity for the Wolves: Player Purdeller offers Lacroix an excellent pass, but it fails because of goalkeeper Madlener. The hosts immediately took advantage of their chance: Gilmor scored brilliantly to make it 1-0 in the second minute. However, the Wolves hang on and manage to increase the pressure. After another goal from the Pioneers in the 12th minute thanks to a deflection from Gilmor, Petan managed to score in the 13th minute and reduce the score to 2-1.
The course of the game
The second section shows a slightly different picture. While the Pioneers have more possession at the beginning, the Wolves are challenged defensively. Lacroix brings the Wolves close to equalizing with a shot against the post, but the game remains in balance. In the 46th minute there was a turning point: a loss of the puck by the Wolves led to 3-1 for the Pioneers. Just a minute later, Keefer increased the score to 4:1. Despite the deficit, the Wolves don't give up and reduce the lead to 4:2 through Findlay.
When the Wolves got a power play in the 52nd minute, Lacroix managed to shorten the gap to 4:3. But the fighting spirit is broken by another mistake by the Wolves, which gives the Pioneers the opportunity to increase to 5:3. Despite a strong final phase in which Purdeller has a chance and the Wolves throw everything into the balance, the equalizer is not achieved. Petan can still reduce the score to 5:4, but after that it's game over for the Wolves.
With this close result, the Wolves return home without any points. This defeat means that the team has to get back on track against VSV in Villach on Friday. On Saturday there will be the first home game against the Graz 99ers, a team that is currently in third place in the table.
Fans will be hoping that Wolves will learn from the defeat and come back stronger in the coming games. The pressure is high, but the motivation in the team remains unbroken. The players are doing everything they can to bring joy and victories back to the region.
