Fuel prices are falling: This is how drivers in Carinthia save cleverly!
Fuel prices in Austria are showing a surprising turnaround! According to the current fuel price balance from the Austrian Transport Club (VCÖ), the prices for petrol and diesel were cheaper this year than last year. A liter of diesel cost an average of 1.60 euros, four cents lower than in 2023, while Eurosuper fell by two cents to 1.57 euros. This development is particularly notable because the overall inflation rate rose by around three percent meinkreis.at reported.
Price development and efficiency
The comparison of price fluctuations within the year is particularly interesting. The high for diesel was reached in mid-February at around 1.73 euros, while the low at the end of September was just 1.47 euros. In Carinthia, an average gasoline car costs 6.9 liters per 100 kilometers, which leads to significant fuel costs. The VCÖ states that fuel consumption has a far greater influence on annual costs than the fuel price itself. If you reduce consumption to five liters per 100 kilometers, you can save around 330 euros on an annual journey of 11,000 kilometers. At the same time, it is called for the real fuel consumption of new cars to be drastically reduced through better political measures, as also by vorarlberg.orf.at highlighted.
The VCÖ experts emphasize that with a conscious driving style, including gliding instead of racing, the consumption of an existing vehicle fleet can be reduced by 15 to 20 percent. This is particularly useful for short journeys, which often lead to unnecessarily high fuel costs. With a clean and effective driving style and targeted policy measures, the burden of fuel costs on drivers could be significantly reduced while protecting the environment.
