Julia Scheib: Comeback in Super-G after injury! Ski fans in excitement!

Julia Scheib, the talented giant slalom specialist from Austria, is planning an impressive comeback in Super-G after not competing in a speed race since suffering a severe cruciate ligament and meniscus tear in 2021. According to information from ORF Scheib could take the first step towards her return next Friday. Her trainer emphasizes: “If things work well in training, she will start.” This news comes in a situation in which the mood in the Austrian ski team has been severely dampened by their recent performances in the World Cup.

The Ski World Championships have so far brought mixed results for the ÖSV riders. Julia Scheib herself fell in the second round of the giant slalom and was left with pain in her right knee. Fortunately, the all-clear was quickly given, because how Ski1 reported that the medical tests were promising. “Everything looks very positive,” she said optimistically about her recovery. Nevertheless, she has to come to terms with the bitter fall: “Falling shortly before the finish hurts brutally,” she explained and admitted her disappointment about missing the finish.

The Austrian team did not achieve the desired success during the World Cup. ÖSV head coach Roland Assinger drew attention to his team's long time lag. At best, Katharina Liensberger ended up in 12th place and thus fell far behind the medal ranks. Scheib was tenth in the first round, but had to accept a gap of 2.50 seconds to the winner Federica Brignone. Assinger called the performance “mixed” and still sees room for improvement. With a patient look forward, the team hopes to soon be back in top form and work towards success.
