On Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025, a tragic traffic accident occurred in the Bosruck Tunnel on the A9, near the community of Spital am Pyhrn, at around 5:10 p.m. Three Somali citizens were involved in the accident, a 28-year-old from Graz and two other men aged 33 and 35. The accident happened dramatically: The 28-year-old first hit the right curb, steered to the left, touched the left curb and then lost control of the vehicle, causing him to collide with the tunnel wall. The car flipped onto its roof and then slid about 235 meters across the road before coming to a stop.
After the accident, oncoming road users immediately provided first aid and notified the emergency services. The injured were quickly taken to the hospital. The 33-year-old and the 35-year-old suffered serious injuries, while the 28-year-old was only slightly injured. The two seriously injured men were transported to the Graz University Hospital and the Linz Accident Hospital, while the slightly injured driver was taken to the Pyhrn-Eisenwurzen Kirchdorf Clinic. Tragically, the 35-year-old passenger died in hospital at 1:27 a.m. on April 22, 2025 as a result of his injuries.
