Tools for volunteering: Free educational half-day in Althofen!

On May 9, 2025, an important educational half-day entitled “Tackling things - tools for club work and volunteering” will take place at the agricultural college in Althofen. This event, hosted by Carinthian educational organization is organized, aims to support clubs in better supporting children and young people. The event begins at 2 p.m. and ends at 8 p.m. and includes a keynote speech by Johannes Hirschler, who deals with the behavior and needs of Generation Z in youth work.

The aim of the lecture is to shed light on the motivation, fears and wishes of this generation, which is often misunderstood. In this context, a new study by the Institute for Management and Economic Research confirms that many young people, especially from Generation Z, are actively committed to social and political goals. In Germany, 49% of 15 to 30 year olds do volunteer work. These young people are particularly active in sports, cultural and music clubs, which underlines the relevance of the upcoming seminar series in Althofen.

Diverse workshop offerings

After the lecture, there will be various practical workshops that will introduce participants to the basics of club management, tax deductibility of donations and reimbursement of expenses. Other topics include creative writing for public relations, performance coaching and child and youth protection in the club. Experts will be available to participants for questions and discussions.

The event is free, but registration is required by April 29, 2025 as places are limited. The initiative is particularly important as many clubs have lost members during the pandemic and the need for support is now greater than ever.

Volunteering as an opportunity

Volunteering not only offers an opportunity to support society, but also the chance to develop personal skills. Studies show that young people who get involved experience higher life satisfaction and a stronger sense of self-efficacy. In addition, involvement in clubs protects against isolation, which is increasing due to the fragmentation of modern societies. In this context, a young volleyball coach, Daniel Zeh, expressed that he finds his unpaid work of around 12 hours per week to be enriching.

Generation Z is heavily affected by challenges such as climate change and social injustices. 41% of young people say they are motivated by their commitment to making a positive impact on society, a trend that is also reflected in the topics of the workshops.

Overall, it shows that volunteering for Generation Z is not only an obligation, but also an opportunity for self-realization and building valuable social networks. Employers value such experiences because they promote initiative, the ability to work in a team and a sense of responsibility. Against this background, the event in Althofen is an important step in developing the potential of young people in club work and inspiring the future generation of volunteers.
