Large apartment fire in Brunn am Mountains: door saves life!

On June 21, 2025, in Brunn on the mountains, Mödling district, a devastating room fire occurred in a residential building in Bahnstraße. Around 11:00 a.m., a resident noticed the smell of fire who penetrated his brother's room. His brother had already left the apartment, so that the attentive homeowner saved himself outdoors and immediately chose the fire brigade emergency call. When the emergency services arrived, smoke and flames from a window were already visible, which the fire brigade alerted. Numerous calls to the fire brigade emergency call 122 signaled the drama of the situation.

The alarmed fire brigade raised the alarm level to "Brand 3" in order to provide sufficient emergency. It remained unclear whether other residents were in danger. Fortunately, most residents had already fled outdoors when the fire brigade arrived. A first respiratory protection team went into the fire apartment with a C-pipe and found that the room was already in full fire when opening the room door.

operational measures and evacuation

A second respiratory protection team meanwhile prepared a fire line on the garage roof. A decisive influence on the course of the extinguishing work had a closed room door that prevented the spread of the fire on adjacent rooms. While the fire brigade checked the fire apartment, surrounding apartments were checked for possible dangers. Thanks to the quick response, there was injuries and two families affected. Three people, including a mother with her baby, were accommodated in red cross.

A total of 25 firefighters with 5 vehicles were deployed. The use lasted about 1.5 hours without greater damage in the other apartments. The volunteer fire brigade Brunn am Mountains was also well prepared, which underlined the efficiency of the operation.

Statistical classification of fire events

In order to emphasize the importance of preventive fire protection measures, a look at general fire statistics is indispensable. As the Feuertrutz shows, there is currently no comprehensive and uniform fire statistics for Germany or for Austria, which systematically records all causes of fire and injured. However, such statistics could contribute to improving fire protection by supplying data to frequent causes of fire and adapting existing protective devices accordingly.

The efficient use of the fire brigade in Brunn on the mountains shows how crucial fast action and good training of the emergency services are in the event of a fire. The incident is another reminder that fires can arise at any time and that appropriate safety precautions are necessary.
