Cemetery Neustift: Urban Gardening for biogeMüse starts!
Friedhof Neustift, Wien, Österreich - On June 6, 2025, the garden season at the Neustift cemetery was ceremoniously opened in Vienna. Significant personalities are involved in this initiative, including Jan Pech from the Ackerhelden, Florian Stollberg, Head of the Neustift cemetery, and Renate Niklas, Managing Director of Friedhöfe Wien GmbH. The idea of Urban Gardening is now spreading on several Vienna cemeteries, which not only contributes to greening, but also promotes community and environmental awareness.
At the Neustift cemetery, ten new beds are now available for growing biogen journeys. The beds were placed on unused meadow areas without graves and each are 24 square meters in size. Participants can rent these areas for 149 euros per year, whereby the offer is only accessible to owners of a grave site on one of the 46 urban cemeteries. The popularity of the project is enormous: around three quarters of the users have extended their plots, which demonstrates the commitment to urban gardening.
diverse possibilities and support
users have the option to choose between 24 m² and 40 m² garden areas, both of which are equipped with pre-planted organic vegetable cultures. The entire acreage is equipped with bio-certified seed goods, young plants and fertilizer. Experts from arable heroes are at the side of the participants, support them in care, support and harvest and thus contribute to optimal use of the areas.
The concept of Urban Gardening not only includes the cultivation of vegetables between graves, as has also been the case in the central cemetery and at the Südwest Meidling cemetery since spring 2023. The Evangelical Cemetery Matzleinsdorf in favorites also participates in this trendy approach. The Gartel season will last until the end of October and is an initiative to present cemeteries as a places of relaxation, coexistence and environmental management.
digital innovation and sustainability
The vegetable beetle is booked via the "digital grave", a free component of each grave site that has been available since 2020. Interested parties can find out more at customer service@digitalesgrab.at and reserve their beds via the website www.digitalesgrab.at in the area "Exclusive & New". It is advisable to act quickly because the beds are awarded according to the first-come-first care principle while stocks last.
In order to promote the sustainable practice of Urban Gardening, users not only have garden tools, but also on -site irradiation water. This facilitates the start of new garden and supports the entire community in their commitment to ecological practices. If we also look beyond the city limits, Urban Gardening in cities like Stuttgart is becoming increasingly important where community gardens and green projects enrich the urban life and increase the quality of life.
