Women's budget under pressure: Disoski warns of equal opportunities!
Graz, Österreich - On June 17, 2025, Meri Disoski, the women's spokeswoman for the Greens, commented critically about the federal government's budget in the National Council. She referred to it as a declaration of women's policy and referred to the massive freezing of the women's budget under the SPÖ-led Minister of Women. The budget was increased by the Greens in government responsibility from 10 to 33.6 million euros, but it now remains at this status, which means inflation -adjusted a decline in funds for equality, violence and active women's policy. "If you want real equality, you also have to finance it," explained Disoski and asked for a course correction.
The criticism is also directed against the way representatives of the government parties sell this standstill as a success. Disoski found that women who fight for fair wages, protection against violence and the same opportunities are disappointed by such political decisions. As urgent as the demands for equality are, the financing remains inadequate.
Financial disadvantages of single parents
Disoski was particularly concerned about the further budget cuts, which affect the climate bonus, educational leave and the automatic adaptation of social services. These cuts mainly meet single parents who will have to expect a loss of 555 euros in the coming year. Here it becomes clear that the current politics not only endangers women in general, but in particular also in need of protection.
A shocking example is the men's emergency call in Styria, which is about to end due to 200,000 euros. Funding was deleted by the Ministry of Social Affairs under the SPÖ-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-EAGE. Disoski emphasizes the urgency, violence protection and women's health, especially according to a current female in Graz. It calls for measures to ensure violence prevention and to strengthen women's projects.
feminist politics as a key to equality
The green women*politics sees themselves as feminist women*politics, with the clear goal of equality at all levels. Topics of this political orientation range from economic independence to reproductive rights of self -determination of women. Again and again it is pointed out that the rights of women are increasingly being attacked internationally. Therefore, the feminist voice in the National Council is considered irreplaceable.
The effects of feminist movements are also globally noticeable. A current study by the German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS) on behalf of GIZ shows that such movements are crucial for social change. They not only promote gender justice, but also sustainable international cooperation. Feminists are particularly active in countries such as Ghana and India: they drive political reforms forward and demand justice in health and climate. The results of these studies flow into the work of GIZ and show that gender equality is essential for sustainable development, peace and social justice. Disoski and the Greens see the need to finally provide the right financial means in Austria to achieve the important feminist goals.
