Ruster Herbst Timeless: A celebration of fine wines and traditions
The “Ruster Herbst Zeitlos” is an integral part of the event scene in Rust, and this year visitors were able to immerse themselves in the world of wine again. Over 25 winemakers opened their cellars and presented a variety of wines. The guests not only had the opportunity to taste fine wines, but were also able to take a look behind the scenes of wine production. The event attracted both locals and visitors from further afield, who took the opportunity to experience the different wines directly from the producers.
The event has been running for 18 years and has evolved over time. Initially, the Seehof was the central location for the tastings, but demand for a more direct experience from the winemakers themselves led to the decision to move the tastings to their cellars and farms. Manfred Widder, chairman of the wine growing association, explained that the guests appreciated being right there where the wine is made.
A look behind the scenes of wine production
On both days of “Herbst Zeitlos” the weather offered the perfect conditions for a wine hike through the picturesque old town of Rust. Green flags with the distinctive Ruster “R” flew in front of the wineries, and guests flocked to the open doors in large numbers, where they not only found tastings but also the opportunity to learn more about wine production.
Young wine and various red and white wines were particularly popular this year. The winemakers took the time to answer questions and discuss the different varieties and vintages with the guests. The visitors' interest in the winemakers and their products was clear, as the cellars everywhere were filled to capacity.
Celebrations for the 500th anniversary of the Ruster “R”
A special theme of the event was the 500th anniversary of the Ruster “R”, a historical brand that can be found on corks and barrels. This trademark is the first of its kind in the wine industry and was a central element of the celebrations. Winemakers take the opportunity to highlight the long history and tradition associated with this symbol.
For all those who missed the event this year, there is already exciting news. The next event, the “Ruster Wine Treasures”, is planned for April 2025, so wine lovers can already look forward to another culinary experience.
