Cost explosion in the case of railway renovation: Breitenbrunn has to pay more

For some time now, the railway line has been extensively renovated from shooters to winds, and this leads to unexpected cost increases, which also affect the adjacent communities. Instead of the originally estimated four million euros, the current costs amount to around 6.2 million euros. "The increase in costs is based on the amount of the tender results," said a spokesman for ÖBB.

The financing of the project stipulates that the state and municipalities make a contribution to the costs. The Park & Ride facilities have been determined: The Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) pay 50 percent of the costs, the state of Burgenland 25 percent and the municipalities the remaining 25 percent. In addition, the country pays a contribution to passenger -relevant measures.

The renovation of the stops

A look at the more specific numbers shows that the municipality of Breitenbrunn now has to provide 190,000 euros for the renovation instead of the originally 116,000 euros. Mayor Helmut Hareter (SPÖ) informed the municipal council that this sum can now be paid over three annual installments instead of over two years - a regulation that also applies to the other participants.

The renovation itself includes a complete renewal of the platforms, including the roofs and the equipment. A blind control system is also installed to promote accessibility. The Park & Ride and Bike & Ride systems in Breitenbrunn and Donnerskirchen are also expanded. The work should be completed by the end of November of this year, but a rail replacement traffic will be set up between October 14 and November 22nd.

The renewal of the stops is not only an improvement in the railway offer, but also a step towards a barrier -free mobility in regional traffic. Further details can be found in a current article www.bvz.at .
