The victim was immediately admitted to the state hospital in Graz, where mortality was excluded due to the injuries. description of the perpetrator and search for

The perpetrator is described as about 30 years old and about 180 cm tall. It has a slim body, a light skin type and a three-day beard. At the time of the crime, he wore a black jacket and a black cap. The police hope to find further witnesses through the phantom image and the detailed description that may have seen something.

The brutal knife attack is not only an isolated case, but also exemplifies a worrying dynamics of violence in Graz. In 2023, a total of 1,724 bans and approximation bans were imposed by the Styria State Directorate, which indicates an increasing number of acts of violence and threats. This presents the authorities with great challenges, especially with regard to the protection of endangered persons and the investigation of such crimes. Since 2020, stricter regulations have been applied in Styria, which include a ban on approximation within a radius of 100 meters in order to better protect those affected.

The police encourage the public to actively participate in the clarification of the case and to share any information that could lead to the identification of the perpetrator. The increase in incidents like this illustrates the need for a socially shared commitment to violence and crime in the cities.
