Bear on B82 recorded: drivers slowed down at the last second!

On the evening of May 27, 2025, around 10:00 p.m., there was a dangerous incident on Seeberg Straße (B82) between Miklauzhof and Bad Eisenkappel. A driver was surprised when a bear suddenly appeared on the road. To avoid a collision, the 56-year-old driver had to brake abruptly. Despite a touch with an oncoming car, the bear was able to flee by ran over the embankment towards Velach River. It is assumed that the animal was violated in the incident, which gives rise to worry. A search by local hunters has so far been unsuccessful, such as Click Carinthia

Wild accidents represent a serious problem, not only in Austria, but also in Germany. According to the Wildlieinstitut Baden-Württemberg, a car is collided with a large wild animal every 2.5 minutes in Germany. Every year, up to 27 fatalities and almost 600 seriously injured fell in these accidents. The property damage adds up to around 490 million euros. Over 200,000 animals, including deer, red deer and wild boar, are damaged in road traffic every year. According to estimates by the German Hunting Association (DJV), around 1,000,000 wild animals are killed in road traffic nationwide, with non -recorded species suffering from these figures.

efficient prevention measures

In order to counteract this alarming situation, the Wildlieinstitut Baden-Württemberg has tackled effective prevention measures against game accidents. The collected game accident data are captured and analyzed centrally in the Euska system (electronic accident type plug-in card). This enables the identification of 421 game accident routes in Baden-Württemberg, which are marked by at least six game accidents within 200 meters. The most common incorrect species include deer, followed by wild boars, daxies, foxes and other wild animals, such as fva bw shows.

A look at the data from 2021 to 2024 reveals the urgency of the need for action. The falling number of accidents in the corridors of the General game plan (GWP) shows progress, but the reduction in game accidents remains a challenging task. The aim is to reduce the number of wild accident numbers, and specific recommendations are required to increase the effectiveness of the measures.

long -term strategies for wild accident prevention

A new project for game prevention is dealing with the research and evaluation of prevention measures over a period of four years. In particular, the complexity of wild accident events requires well -founded analyzes to meet the varying factors. As noticing the Wildbiology Institute, there are no extensive studies on the effectiveness of existing protection systems, which underlines the need for action for species and animal welfare as well as to take a risk for humans.

Overall, the incident in Carinthia shows that game accidents not only represent dangers to animals, but also for people who use the streets. Preventive measures are essential to protect both the wildlife population and human security.
