Increase in the convictions in Austria: dramatic developments 2024!
The judicial convictions in Austria again recorded a slight increase in 2024. This marks the fourth year in a row, in which the number of convictions grows. According to the Kleine Zeitung, the number of convicted persons was 25,445, which corresponds to an increase of 1.6 percent compared to the previous year. However, the number of convictions is still below the level of 2019.
The statistics show that a total of 43,560 offenses were recorded in 2024. This corresponds to an increase of 3.6 percent, while the average number of offenses has risen from 1.63 to 1.66. The re -ified quota is now 30.9 percent, which means a slight increase of 0.9 percentage points. Almost every third convicted person has been convicted again in the following four years since 2020.

The greatest proportions of the crimes committed are in actions against foreign assets that made up for 32 percent of the total convictions. In second place there are offenses against body and life with 18.5 percent, followed by addictive offenses that make up 13.5 percent. The increase in severe offenses is particularly worrying: (attempted) murder rose by 21.1 percent and (severe) robbery by 23.8 percent, while there was a decline in the convictions according to the Foreign Police Act by 34.2 percent.
The demographic analysis shows that 84.5 percent of the convicted people are male and 85.6 percent over 20 years old. The proportion of convicts between 14 and 17 years rose slightly to 6.1 percent. At the same time, the proportion of young adults fell from 13.1 percent in 2012 to 8.4 percent in 2024.
