Less dispute in the ÖTTV? Darabos and Liu Jia want to dare a new beginning!

Salzburg, Österreich - The domestic table tennis association ÖTTV is facing a crucial turn. Norbert Darabos, former defense and sports minister, runs as the new president and throws his hat in the ring. Next to him is the prominent player Liu Jia, who is intended as sports director and vice president of sports. Darabos said that he wanted to leave the conflicts that arose last year quickly and bring a fresh wind into action with a new management team, as reported.

However, the nominations have caused excitement. Conrad Miller, ÖTTV Vice President Finance, as well as Bundesliga chairman Renner expressed that they did not give approval to their nomination. Miller commented: "I think it - to say the least - irritating that I have learned from the already submitted proposal from the media." Renner also confirmed that he only had knowledge of his nomination through the media, which continues to escalate the already tense atmosphere in the association, such as the Kleine Zeitung reported.

conflicts and elections

Last year, the current ÖTTV President Wolfgang Gotschke, who is again considered a candidate for the election of the board, was confronted with serious allegations, including psychological violence and neglect of players. These allegations have always been rejected, but have led to massive internal tensions. The current board meets on Thursday, and all election proposals must be submitted by March 1st. The general assembly for election will then take place on March 30th. Observers are excited to see whether Gotschke and Fegerl will compete with their own list or free the path for Darabos and Liu.

The dynamics within the association could now be decisively influenced, while the players are behind the new proposal and strive for a return to a respectful cooperation. Darabos himself emphasizes how much sport is close to his heart and he now wants to bring his experience and knowledge into the development of young talents in table tennis.
