World's Day of the book: Free admission and events in Vienna!

Wien, Österreich - On April 23, 2025, the UNESCO “World Day of the Book” in Vienna is celebrated. The Literaturmuseum will offer special incentives on this day with free admission and free tours. The permanent exhibition of the museum shows the impressive variety of Austrian literature from the 18th century to the present day.

Numerous events across Austria are planned on the occasion of the "World Day of the Book". The main association of the Austrian book trade has already listed about a dozen readings and book presentations until the end of the month. The anticipation for the celebrations is growing, not least thanks to innovative initiatives.

A special highlight will be the first "Global Book Crawl". Around 30 domestic bookstores, including 24 in Vienna, take part. This action, which takes place from April 22nd to 26th, aims to promote local smaller books. In addition, the main association of the Austrian book trade invites all bookstores to celebrate the UNESCO World Day of the book. This initiative takes place in cooperation with the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Public Service and Sport as well as the literary mechana.

The funding aims to increase the visibility of domestic writers: to increase inside. Only eleven percent of the books sold in Austria come from Austrian publishers, which underlines the importance of these measures. All bookstores with an Austrian location can take part in this funding that ends on March 31, 2025.
