in Vienna Landstrasse, in the heart of one of the largest life sciences hub in Europe, has moved into its first premises in the MarxBox in the heart of the new innovative Institute for Artificial Intelligence (AI) in biomedicine, Aithyra. Under the leadership of the founding director Michael Bronstein, the institute will aim to develop AI-supported methods in order to revolutionize the biosciences and to promote human health. At the ceremonial handover of the City Councilor Peter Hanke emphasized that Aithyra will be a significant sign of Vienna's international competitiveness, while ÖAW President Heinz Faßmann praised the close cooperation between the city and the Austrian Academy of Sciences.

The MarxBox, which is awarded the gold certification of "Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design" (LEED), offers state-of-the-art laboratory and office units on an area of around 11,700 square meters. This enables flexible use and sets high standards in terms of energy efficiency and modern technologies. The Gebouw was specially designed for Life Sciences users and is part of the Vienna Biocenter campus, which is already home to numerous renowned institutes, including the IMBA and the IMP. In a first phase, Aithyra receives around 1,000 square meters, while two other floors are planned for future requirements to accommodate other research teams, as the Viennese urban developer explained at the opening.

technological innovation and ecological responsibility

A special feature of the MarxBox is the focus on climate -friendly technologies that are used both during the construction phase and in operation. This sustainable construction not only ensures a reduction in greenhouse gases, but also leads to lower operating costs for the tenants, which makes the project particularly attractive. The MarxBox is being developed in cooperation with the Vienna Stadtentwicklungsgesellschaft (WSE), which the building has realized together with the S+B Group. Aithyra will support Boehringer Ingelheim Foundation in the next twelve years by a generous promotion of 150 million euros, which makes planning and implementing innovative research projects considerably easier.
