Prostitution in the HSK: Controls increase through private offers!

Meschede.A remarkable change has been taking place in the Hochsauerlandkreis (HSK) for several years, which has fundamentally changed the perception of prostitution. The underlying factors are diverse, but the focus is on the increasing shift of prostitution to private spaces, driven by the consequences of corona pandemic.

The framework conditions for controlling sex work are not easy in the HSK. According to the district administration, it has become more intensive controls, since more and more sex workers are no longer offering their services in official companies, but in private living spaces. "The fact is that the multiple shift of sex work into private living space has become essential due to the pandemic," explains a spokesman for the administration. This is not just a local phenomenon, but a phenomenon that can be observed in many regions.

Detail of official registrations

The tendency is clear: the official registration numbers of sex workers in the Hochsauerlandkreis have been declining continuously since 2020. In the current year, only 18 sex workers have registered in the HSK, mostly from Germany and Bulgaria. These declines raise questions, since 63 new registrations were still counted from 2020. The reasons for this are multi -layered, but can also be attributed to the fact that many sex workers can shift their main care location to another city in order to then work in the HSK. A spokesman for the district administration sums it up: "For many, sex work is not associated with a permanent job. Regular changes in the place of work are therefore the rule."

According to information from Westfalenpost, the HSK is currently equipped with five companies that have corresponding operating permits. These are spread over two in Arnsberg, two in Brilon and one in Marsberg. Nevertheless, the importance of online platforms for conveying sexual services to growing challenges for the local regulatory authorities remains. Most sex workers now advertise on the Internet, which makes control difficult.

Replace to holiday apartments

Another aspect of the current situation is the increase in illegal prostitution that takes place in holiday apartments. The district administration warns landlords of the consequences of a possible illegal use of their real estate and asks them to report suspected cases immediately. "A particularly high fluctuation of male visitors throughout the day could be an indication of illegal activities," said a representative of the district house in Meschede. In the event of a suspicion, landlords should contact the administration by email or by phone.

"In view of the current developments, it should be noted that the control of prostitution in the HSK is not only a bureaucratic challenge, but also a socio -political problem. These changes will have to be brought into focus in the future," warns the administration. The question of control and registration remains urgent in particular with regard to the security of the sex workers and the possibility of bringing them into a regulated environment.

Thus, the Hochsauerlandkreis is required to find creative solutions in order to maintain both the interests of sex workers and to ensure the requirements of public security. Authorities emphasize that prostitution should not be criminalized, but should be directed into regulated railways, which could result in a differentiated approach.
