New strategies for patient safety: secure quality in healthcare!

On September 17, 2025, on the occasion of the world day the patient: interior security, the Federal Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs, Health and Consumer Protection (BMASGPK) announced the update of quality and patient: interior security strategies for the Austrian healthcare system. These two strategies aim to ensure high -quality and safe supply by 2030. The new measures and goals should help to continuously improve the supply processes and to promote evidence-based decisions, such as ots reported.

The focus of the quality strategy is to anchor quality in all areas of healthcare, from planning to the provision of services to evaluation. A particularly important aspect The patient: Interior security strategy is the strengthening of an open security culture. This also includes the constructive handling of errors, promoting learning systems and the use of digital solutions to increase the patient: interior security.

Initiatives for more security

A central element of the new strategies is the "Never Events" initiative. This is intended to promote the notification of avoidable serious events in clinical treatment. Messages can be reported via the platform www.neverevents.at are submitted to systematically process them and avoid future incidents. It comprises five focal points, each containing four to five recommendations for action. When developing the strategy, the WHO recommendations were also taken into account in the global action plan for patient safety.
