Life -threatening toy! Chamber of Labor warns of online shops
The Chamber of Labor Upper Austria gives the alarm: A recently carried out test has uncovered serious defects in toys from the so-called bargain dealers Temu, Wish and Shein. A total of 13 toys for children under the age of three were checked in the laboratory of the Austrian Agency for Health and Nutritional Safety (AGE), and the results are alarming. For five of these products, it was found that they did not meet the European security requirements. It is particularly frightening that two waves from Wish-a telescope suction giraffe and a wooden camera for babies-represent a "very serious health risk" for toddlers. These products were immediately reported to the Federal Office of Consumer Health because they have an increased risk of suffocation and strangulation. This reports Volksblatt.at .
The investigations showed that dangerous detachable small parts were also complained about in Temu in bathing toys. The Shein range is similarly dangerous. Here, in two toys, a dancing cactus and a sensory ring, considerable suffocation risks were found by resolving parts. In addition, a flame retardant in the cactus was demonstrated in a not permissible high concentration, which further increases the danger of these products. Despite earlier assurances on the part of Temu that he has removed the complaints from the range, there is apparently no real improvement, like the test results from the Toys Industries of Europe (TIE) Association in February 2024 show that 18 out of 19 tested toys do not meet the regulations. According to ots.at , the authorities are also investigated in view of the violations of EU law.
