Court decided: Congo-gray papacy must be accommodated as species-appropriate!
Gießen, Deutschland - The Gießen Administrative Court ruled in a significant judgment that the individual attitude of a Congo-gray papageis does not meet the animal welfare requirements. In a recently published decision, the 4th chamber rejected an urgent request from the applicant, which had arisen against the orders of the district of Gießen. The authority had prohibited the individual posture of the parrot and ordered an attempt to socialize because the over 30 years of single husbandry was rated as not species-appropriate. The applicant now has to hand in the bird to a suitable facility for at least 14 days to carry out the socialization attempt, such as Right and politics
The veterinary office argued that Congo gray papals show strong social behavior and must be kept at least in pairs in order to satisfy their natural needs. A prior attempt to socialize with another parrot had failed, but the court pointed out that an effective attempt to socialize had not yet been undertaken. The decision was also based on an expert opinion from the Bavarian State Office for Health and Food Safety. The court made it clear that the need for the Congo-gray papage ice cream, after species-appropriate attitude, has priority against possible health risks for the applicant. The court's assessment of the need for socialization is still available for legal review, since a complaint against the decision can be filed within two weeks at the Hessian Administrative Court, such as Administrative jurisdiction Hessen
