ENT doctor Peter Kiss from the University Hospital Graz emphasizes the importance of prevention in the area of ​​hearing loss. "Hearing reductions are often underestimated. With increasing age, the likelihood of being affected is increasing," he explains, pointing out that almost everyone from 80 years of age suffers from an age -related hearing loss. But younger people should also pay attention to their hearing. In particular, the widespread use of headphones, often at much too high volume, is a serious risk. Kiss advises to pay attention to the volume when listening to music and loud events and, if necessary, to carry hearing protection. There are many patients who are looking for help due to audita trauma, i.e. acute hearing losses through loud noises.

Peter Kiss explains that drug treatment is complex and specific studies are necessary to identify the appropriate drugs. In this context, it is important to raise awareness of suitable countermeasures to prevent such hearing damage, especially with the constantly changing world of music in our society.
