Creative minds wanted: Yellow Hand for Tolerance competition in Magdeburg!
A creative competition is being launched in Magdeburg to raise awareness of tolerance and against discrimination. The Construction-Agrar-Environment Industrial Union (IG BAU) calls on all trainees and students at vocational schools to submit innovative projects that take a stand against racism. “The 'Yellow Hand' competition is an excellent opportunity for young people to get actively and creatively involved in the fight against discrimination,” explains Thomas Waldheim, the district chairman of IG BAU Altmark-Börde-Harz. Every idea counts, be it a short film, a social media campaign or an exhibition about people with a migration background. The deadline for entries is January 15, 2025, while the award ceremony for the most creative projects will take place in March 2025, as Meeting point Magdeburg reported.
Attractive prices and conditions of participation
The competition not only promotes creativity, but also rewards the efforts of young people with prize money of 1,000 euros for first place, 700 euros for second and 500 euros for third place. In addition, special prizes of 500 euros each are offered by the DGB Youth Saxony-Anhalt and the state of Saxony-Anhalt. To take part in the competition, the projects must have been carried out in 2023 or 2024 and must not have previously been awarded in other competitions, such as Democracy, diversity, respect highlights.
With this approach, IG BAU relies on active youth who are committed to countering the growing right-wing extremist tendencies. “A strong community is crucial to resolutely counteract extreme and racist machinations,” Waldheim continued. Participation in the competition not only leads to creative expression, but also to a clear message for respectful coexistence in society.
