Beer party leaves politics: A farewell with new plans!
The Beer Party, once active in Austrian politics with a creative and unconventional approach, has announced its withdrawal from political business. In a recent statement, Dominik Wlazny, the party's founder and leader, stated that they would no longer run in future elections. “The Beer Party closes the chapter as a political party in the classic sense,” says the statement, which makes it clear that it wants to concentrate on other, non-electoral activities. This was done by Krone.at reported.
A creative experiment comes to an end
The beer party, which was founded in 2015 for fun and artistic vigor, has caused a stir with its performances in recent years. It became known, among other things, for the installation of a beer fountain on Schwarzenbergplatz in 2022 and for Wlazny's candidacy for the office of Federal President. Despite the creative approach, the election results fell short of expectations: in the 2019 National Council election, the party only achieved 0.1 percent and in 2024 only two percent MyDistrict.at reported. Ultimately, the Beer Party sporadically gained some political weight by being represented in eleven district parliaments, but the time for political ambition now appears to be over.
Wlazny emphasizes that the Beer Party wants to remain critical and sees itself as an “association” that is dedicated to social issues without being tied to elections. “Political statements are not tied to a mandate,” he explains. The withdrawal is interpreted as a strategic step to respond to current social challenges. The exact plans for the future are currently unclear, but one thing is certain: the beer party is saying goodbye to the electoral stage and may find new ways to be active in Austria's political landscape.
