Price range of over 60%: This is how expensive drinks are in Graz!
In a comprehensive study, the Styrian Chamber of Labor examined the price differences for drinks in restaurants. The survey, which was expanded to all Styrian districts in 2023, shows that the price range for common drinks in restaurants is over 60 percent. This particularly affects popular drinks such as coffee, beer, spritzes, fruit juices and spritz drinks. In total, prices were collected from 43 restaurants, with over 600 individual prices analyzed. Over 22 of these restaurants are in Graz and 21 in the districts surrounding the city. As ots.at reports, there are significant differences in the price categories that are likely to be of interest to consumers.
The study shows that the prices for some drinks vary greatly in Graz. A cappuccino costs between 3.5 and 4.9 euros, while a half liter of beer costs between 4.6 and 5.9 euros. The price range is particularly noticeable for the white spritzer, which ranges from 2.4 to 4.6 euros, and for fruit juice or nectar, which is between 2.2 and 5.1 euros. These price differences are indicative not only of market diversity, but also of the strategic pricing that foodservice establishments must pursue.
Price development and inflation
The research also notes that prices have increased compared to last year. In July 2023, the average price increase was 4.5 percent, while inflation was 3 percent during this period. However, the increase in the catering industry was significantly higher than in previous years, where prices rose by eleven percent. The Chamber of Labor has compiled this information based on regular market research on the subject of beverage prices in Graz city center bars; 28 restaurants were examined, which were recorded together with 420 individual prices. In some companies, prices remained unchanged, while in a few cases there were even price reductions.

Calculation in the catering industry
The catering industry faces major challenges due to high rents, wages and food costs. According to g-wie-gastro.de, restaurateurs must not only pay attention to keeping an eye on the costs of raw materials and personnel, but also adapt pricing to customer expectations in order to ensure profitability. High drink prices can be intimidating and raise questions about quality. Therefore, well thought-out price calculation is crucial for the long-term success of a catering business.
The price differences make it clear that a price comparison is important not only for customers, but also for the operators of the bars in order to remain competitive. They should regularly review and adjust their prices to meet market trends and customer demand. The pricing tables are available at akstmk.at, providing a valuable resource for interested consumers.
