FC WR celebrates its first win in the Carinthian league: 3-1 against Klagenfurt!

On August 31, 2025, FC Nußdorf/Debant celebrated his first victory in the Carinthian league with a 3-1 away win against the amateurs of Austria Klagenfurt. The match took place on Friday evening under difficult conditions in heavy rain and attracted around 500 spectators to the stadium. In an exciting game, both playful solutions and individual mistakes were crucial for the outcome of the game.

The players of FC WR, including some with prominent football past, such as Naldo, son of the former Werder Bremen defender, as well as other young talents, had an intensive competition. Goalkeeper Kevin Zesch of the Klagenfurter, from Matrei, performed well, but was uninvolved in one of the three goals. Naldo had the first big chance of the game in the 2nd minute with a header that just passed the goal.

Game course and turning points

Both teams tried to play out their skills, which led to an interesting course of the game. FC WR had several top -class opportunities, including Lukas Huber, Dominik Sporer and Mark Ceh. In the 30th minute, however, the guests managed an own goal who brought the home team into the lead (1-0). But this joy did not last long, because only five minutes later Naldo equalized after a free kick to 1-1.

After halftime, FC WR failed in a weaker phase. Klagenfurt had three chances to score the lead in the 51st minute. In order to regain control, coach Sven Lovric brought fresh forces into the game. This tactical decision paid off: in the 70th minute, Stefan Kraler made it 2-1 for FC WR. Tobias Jeller scored the final point in the 87th minute with a free kick to make it 3-1.

This game took place as part of the Carinthian League, which plays a central role in regional football and includes clubs such as SK Austria Klagenfurt II, ATSV Wolfsberg and VST Völkermarkt. Matrei, another club in the league, fought to a 1-1 draw against league leaders Völkermarkt, who had won all five games up to that point. Benjamin Cosic made it 1-0 for Matrei from 25 meters in the 72nd minute, before Völkermarkt later equalized with a penalty.

The Carinthian League has a long and varied history, dating back to 1922. The championship, which will be held this season 25/26, is the fourth highest league in Austrian football. Champions of the Carinthian League have the right to be promoted to the Regionalliga Mitte, although certain requirements must be met. The league currently consists of 16 clubs that compete against each other over 30 rounds.

For FC Nußdorf/Debant and his supporters, the victory was a positive start to the season, while the amateurs from Austria Klagenfurt have to wait for their first point win.
